The Hajj (/hædʒ/;[1] Arabic: حج Ḥaǧǧ "pilgrimage") is an annual Islamicpilgrimage to Mecca, and a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all adult Muslimswho are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey, and can support their family during their absence.[2][3][4] It is one of thefive pillars of Islam, alongside Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, and Sawm. The Hajj is the largest annual gatherings of people in the world[5][6][dubious – discuss]. The state of being physically and financially capable of performing the Hajj is called istita'ah, and a Muslim who fulfills this condition is called a mustati. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to God(Allah).[7][8] The word Hajj means "to intend a journey", which connotes both the outward act of a journey and the inward act of intentions.
Since the Hajj has been cancelled for non-residents for the 2nd year now, it begs the question :
Is it not possible to have the pilgri,age VIRTUALLY ?
Back in the middle ages we had a similar pilgrimage . To Jerusalem to meditate at each station of the cross where sduch actually happened. The Crusades made that dangerous to do , so it came to be done virtually, within the cathedral or church, with plaques on the pillars where one could meditate and pray.
The Hajj COULD be done by stations in a mosque, where one stones a wall (since there is NO Satan ...),
There have been too many incidents even going to or from Mecca (such as that terrible plane crash of flight 2120 (NationAir) where there were no survivors) or that stampede in the tunnel where well over 1000 pilgrims were killed. Was that underground shrine even necessary ?
Barring a virtual pilgrimage ...
I also propose that the annual pilgrimage be replaced by 12 monthly pilgrimages , or even weekly, thus vastly reducing the crowds, and making vastly unlikely what seem to be annual massacres..
I also propose that Mecca and Medina be made a separate state, no longer under the rule of the tyrants of Arabia. Most Moslem states are run by life tyrants, with church & state united.
